Qualified Medical Evaluator (QME) — California Department of Industrial Relations

A QME is a physician or dentist certified by the State's Division of Workers' Compensation to perform independent medical-legal evaluations in workers' compensation cases. When a dental injury claim is disputed, a QME examines the patient, reviews the records, and renders an impartial opinion that the parties and the courts rely on. Certification requires passing the State's QME competency examination and maintaining ongoing continuing education in medical-legal evaluation.
