These Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) are all about Invisalign! If you’re curious about this innovative yet fairly new teeth-straightening treatment, read on to get clear and informative answers. Invisalign is the modern alternative to braces. It’s an orthodontic treatment that uses invisible and removable aligners to gradually straighten your teeth. Unlike traditional braces that require metal hardware, Invisalign uses a series of clear plastic trays that are formed to the shape of your teeth. Each tray or aligner set comes in a package with a number on it. Your dentist will assign a schedule for you to wear them in order until your teeth are as straight as you want them to be. The process can last an average of 6 to 18 months. Invisalign is designed to be an upgrade from regular metal braces so it’s much more quick, discreet and comfortable.
Invisalign works by using a series of aligners that are custom-fit to your teeth, each slightly different from the previous, to gently shift your teeth into their desired positions. Dr Gohar will ask you to wear each set of “trays” or aligners for one or two weeks before moving on to the next one. Your teeth will move into proper alignment over the course of your ortho treatment which includes free refinements if needed.
The duration of your Invisalign treatment will depend on the complexity of your case. On average, Invisalign treatment can take anywhere from 6 months to 18 months. Your orthodontist may add attachments or tooth colored buttons to speed up the process. Dr Gohar will provide a personalized treatment plan and initial timeline during your complimentary Invisalign consultation.
Invisalign is a versatile treatment option, but its suitability depends on your specific dental needs. It can treat a wide range of orthodontic issues including crowded teeth, overbites, underbites, crossbites, gap teeth and open bites. In extremely complex cases, your treatment may still require traditional braces. You can schedule a complimentary Invisalign consultation, virtually or in-person, to find out if Invisalign is the best orthodontic treatment for you.
You should wear your Invisalign aligners for at least 20-22 hours a day to get the best results. You can remove your Invisalign for eating, drinking, brushing, flossing or special occasions.
No, there are no food restrictions with Invisalign since you can remove the aligners when eating. Just make sure to clean your teeth before putting the aligners back in to prevent bacteria and staining.
You may experience mild pressure or discomfort when you put on a new set of aligners, but this is usually temporary. You’ll get used to the pressure in as soon as 20 minutes and the discomfort should go away within two days at the latest. It’s a sign that the treatment is working and over-the-counter pain relievers can help ease any discomfort if needed.
You can clean your aligners by gently brushing them with a soft toothbrush, toothpaste and lukewarm water. Specialized cleaning crystals or solutions are also available for purchase on the Invisalign Accessories page.

On average, the cost of Invisalign treatment can range from $4,000 to $8,000. The price depends on factors such as the dentist’s level of expertise, severity of the dental issues being treated, length of treatment and dental office location.
